Livingston County Children\'s Network Home About LCCN Employment Contact Us Sitemap Home About LCCN Employment Contact Us Sitemap Our Mission Families all across Livingston County will utilize and value a comprehensive continuum of services to promote children’s social and emotional development which will, in turn, effectively reduce at-risk behaviors and strengthen relationships. Our Goals 1. Increase capacity of system of care 2. Increase accessibility of services 3. Increase coordination of services 4. Decrease rates of risk behaviors and frequency & severity of mental disorders Livingston County Children’s Network Who are we? The Livingston County Children’s Network (LCCN) is comprised of entities committed to working together for the good of Livingston County children. The LCCN is taking a public health approach to fostering children’s social, emotional, behavioral, academic and physical health. You’ve probably seen public health campaigns designed to decrease smoking, drunk driving, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome and to increase use of seat belts, teeth brushing, and reading with one’s children. The LCCN plans to publicize successful parenting tips and child development facts. The medical/health sector is taking the lead on this as part of their investment in linking every child to a medical home where a provider attends to all aspects of the child’s development over time. Look for bill boards, newspaper, television and radio spots reminding all of us of strategies to raise healthy, happy, and productive children. In time, during doctor visits, we will be able to access parenting coaching from providers with specialized training in promoting children’s development. Similarly, in educational settings, all children will be learning to manage their emotions, cope with stress, get along with others, solve conflicts, and set and accomplish goals as part of the general education curriculum. All children will be periodically screened and additional support and instruction offered to those who may benefit. This prevention approach has been shown to decrease problems such as bullying and other kinds of violence, drug and alcohol use, and other risk behaviors while also improving academic outcomes and school climate. If a child or parent has the sense that a problem is emerging, every effort will be made to provide the appropriate services in a convenient place and manner. Services may be available to us in libraries, churches, schools, doctors’ offices, and other community settings that decrease the burden of transportation. Psychologists, social workers, and counselors are receiving specialized training for treatment of concerns that are common in our community so that we can feel confident that qualified help is available. An important component of this initiative is to find ways for all entities serving children to work together more effectively. Resources are being pooled in a number of ways to create supports that may not have existed previously. All entities have agreed to use common forms and communication protocols to make sure that no one “falls through the cracks.” Our children’s health and happiness is a community priority! Let’s join together to take advantage of the resources that are available to us. On September 10, 2013 we had our First Annual Community Summit (hosted by the medical sector) to celebrate our progress on our plan. You can view the presentation (about 75 minutes) by clicking on this link. You may need a free download on your computer for it to work correctly. Also, this is the Summit Handout that the guests had in front of them. On November 18, 2014, we had our Second Annual Community Summit (hosted by the education sector)! You are invited to view and listen to the presentation which includes some promising data.
